eading this massive new development in Dubai - Bawadi, a project funded by Tatweer, part of the Dubai Holding Company. The development will be a 10-km long boulevard, containing 51 hotels and more than 60,000 rooms. For some perspective, the much talked about Venetian Macao, just an hour from Hong Kong, has just over 4,000 rooms and rarely hits 100% occupancy. It really makes one wonder where the demand will come from for such a development. I can't see it nor can I see the mega-consumer trends required to push this type of project forward and make it a success. Its a place you go once (maybe), tell your friends and neighbors and that's it. Why else wander around a bubble in the middle of the desert with 60,000 other marooned tourists?
