Early April Fool's Day!

With recent speculation about how Twitter intends to monetize its popular social media site, it easy to see why so many users were duped by this early April fool’s day prank. Twitter co-founder and CEO Evan Williams was even in on it.

Radiohead - Staying Ahead of the Times

Radiohead made headlines last year went it launched its album 'In Rainbows' as a digital download where the customer could select their own price. Its a new approach for the music industry...

Now, they've taken videos to the next level. Their song 'House of Cards' has been shot with 3D imagery lasers, done completely without cameras. Pretty cool. Check it out:

Snooooooooooze! -A Direct Marketing Success

My employer The Tomorrow Group, a B2B specialist ad agency in Asia, has enjoyed tremendous success by developing direct marketing pieces for its clients. One example is this offering from Finnair, a tiny pillow DM sent to the business crowd of Hong Kong advertising their new flat beds. Simple. Effective. We received calls from our target audience asking for more pillows!

Direct Marketing which engages the user is a phenomenally effective advertising tool for businesses in the B2B segment. Give DMs another look.

The New Dubai Resort?!

A co-worker of mine's former MBA classmate has taken on this job heading this massive new development in Dubai - Bawadi, a project funded by Tatweer, part of the Dubai Holding Company. The development will be a 10-km long boulevard, containing 51 hotels and more than 60,000 rooms. For some perspective, the much talked about Venetian Macao, just an hour from Hong Kong, has just over 4,000 rooms and rarely hits 100% occupancy.

It really makes one wonder where the demand will come from for such a development. I can't see it nor can I see the mega-consumer trends required to push this type of project forward and make it a success. Its a place you go once (maybe), tell your friends and neighbors and that's it. Why else wander around a bubble in the middle of the desert with 60,000 other marooned tourists?

Welcome to Ryder Rambles

Welcome to my periodic rambles on topics that have spurred me into action.
Feel free to comment or challenge an opinion - interactivity is more fun.

One of the main reasons for this blog is my own education. I work for an ad agency which is making the switch from static/traditional advertising to interactive content. To sell clients on interactive content, I need to understand it first hand, and no better way than to ramble on about it.
